He who works with his hands is a labourer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.
– St. Francis of Assisi
This beach. This girl. That light.
To me this session is everything and represented me saying goodbye to the place call home and starting pastures new. Taken just a few days before I left my sweet home town and followed my heart to Spain. As an artist I feel it is important to take time out and shoot solely for yourself, I think its important for your self development and inner contentment. I try to take personal images as much as posible fine tuning my art and honing the skills I have come to develop. That means working a long side a film lab, talking to them about how you can take your work to the next level and then listening and acting on what you learn.
As a wedding photographer sometimes you don’t have as much time as you like to experiment whilst taking photographs at a wedding so its necessary to make time to practice. I love that film photography makes you work, it forces you to strive for perfection in what you do and allows you to constantly be learning. I love sharing my knowledge with other too helping individuals find their own voice as an artist, a photographer and seeing them develop. Since creating Illuminated Collective a European Fine Art and Film Photography workshop my awareness for self development has become prevalent and I can see how much we can all learn from each other.
I am so pleased that I have joined again with Jessie Thomson and Amy Bowley to curate the next Illuminated Workshop which will be held in my new home town in Spain this September. The workshop has been designed to help develop yourself as an artist, learn the skill of film photography and finding your own niche in sea of wedding photographers. This retreat will be taught over two days and boast beautiful styled sessions, one to one talks with the mentors and gorgeous surroundings. If you would like to join us in this experience visit here.

To bread I do not ask to teach me
but only not to lack during every day of life.
I don’t know anything about light, from where
it comes nor where it goes,
I only want the light to light up,
I do not ask to the night
I wait for it and it envelops me,
And so you, bread and light
And shadow are.
– Pablo Neruda

Chan and Andy will be getting married in a few months in the handsome house Coombe Lodge and I am beyond excited to shoot their wedding. I know a girl, she puts colour into my world.

These are my sweet friends Sarah and Dan along with their precious baby girl Avery, I photographed them while I was spending the winter in California and Baja Mexico. Avery is such a sweet little girl who we discovered loved watching the waves crashing against the rocks, a true californian girl!
It was so lovely to document this gorgeous family in a place that is special to us all, Wind ‘n’ Sea is my favourite Californian beach so beautiful and relaxed full of character and the best sunsets.
I can’t wait to see my dear friends again soon and hopefully take some more photographs of sweet Avery Frances xoxo
